Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award 2021: Scholarship Description:

The Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award is one of the three prestigious need-and-merit-based awards are available through UBC’s International Scholars Program. 

It is established to recognize international undergraduate students with high academic profile from impoverished or war-torn areas who have attained academic excellence under difficult circumstances and cannot further their education in the university without financial assistance.

Value of Scholarship:

The value of your Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award is proportional to your demonstrated financial need and sufficient to cover living expenses and tuition costs for your degree of study.

The scholarship award is renewable for up to three more years of undergraduate study or to degree completion, provided you achieve satisfactory academic standing in your faculty, continues to demonstrate your need for finance and maintain your Canadian study permit (study visa).

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award, the following must be met;

·        Must be an international student with a Canadian study permit that would enable you to study in Canada

·        Must be from a war-torn, politically unstable or economically disadvantaged region of the world.

·        Must be graduating or currently graduated from a recognized senior secondary school.

·        You must have graduated from high school no earlier than the month of June two years prior to the academic year you are applying to. For example, applicants for 2022 must have graduated from high school no earlier than June 2020.

·        Must be applying for your first undergraduate degree 

·        Must satisfy the UBC’s admission requirements, including general and degree-specific requirements and the English Language Admission Standard.

·        Must be able to demonstrate a superior academic performance (achieve As or equivalent standard) and leadership potential.

·        Must have attained academic excellence under difficult circumstances and have no means of finance from family or other sources to pursue post-secondary education in your country (because it is unavailable or unattainable) or outside your country (because it is unaffordable).

Application Process:

The application procedures are as follows;

January 5: Submit your award application and complete the online application for admission to UBC. You are allowed to specify two-degree choices in your application but your first-choice degree will be considered for the purposes of this award.

January 31: Meet UBC’s English Language Admission Standard.

February 1: Submit the documents required for your admissions application. Please submit by this deadline, not the date indicated in your “next steps” email.

Mid-April: Nominees will be informed if they have received an award.
