Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship Description

The Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships are available for students from certain developing Commonwealth countries. These scholarships are sponsored by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) as a means of contributing to the United Kingdom’s International Development aims and wider overseas interests, supporting excellence in UK’s higher education and sustaining the principles of the Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships are only available to citizens of certain developing commonwealth countries. This includes; Bangladesh, Cameroon, Eswatini, The Gambia, Ghana, Guyana, India, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia

Each Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship will cover tuition fees and study grants when required


To be eligible for the Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship, applicants must;

·        Be a citizen or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.

·        Be a permanent resident in an eligible Commonwealth country

·        Have earned a first-class degree or second class upper standard. A lower qualification and sufficient relevant experience may also be considered \

·        Be unable to afford to study in the UK without the support of this scholarship. 

Application Process:

You must first apply to study an eligible master’s course at a UK university that is participating in the Distance Learning scheme. Next, you will need to receive or secure admission to your university course.

After you must have secured your admission to your university course, you must check with your chosen university for their specific advice on when to apply, admission requirements and criteria to observe when applying. You are required to make your application using the CSC’s online application system, in addition to any other application that you are required to complete by your chosen university.
